Just an Illusion – EP is book three in The Illusion Series

review

She warned us. Literally:

Warning – Per the request of The B Side reader group. Please have wine, tissues, and chocolate in hand. I’m pretty sure if you’ve read The B Side this is a given, but I’m my due diligence by extending a warning.

And even after that warning, and having read The B Side and crying my eyes out at the end, she did it again. We let the woman do it to us AGAIN. I read the fist three chapters in sobs, but the tears were bitter sweet as we learned that Mel and the baby survived the bus crash, only to have her world ripped apart again.

Now set two years after the tour ending/bus crash Mel recounts her memories with the help of the band mates that witnessed everything. We are taken into such a deep grasp of emotions, you’ll find yourself not able to breath at times. I knew I could have finished this book in one night (as I have the others) but I had to put it down several times just to process not only what Mel was feeling, but what I was feeling as well. I can relate to one of the death’s of the book, a friend taken too soon, and all those emotions of from the moment I found out she was gone, to the nights crying myself to sleep all came rushing back.

I have to admit something I first considered a flaw (the length of Mel’s recovery) was actually something that readers need and authors need not fear to write. We are reminded of several life lessons, especially no one can tell you how to grieve or when it needs to end.

I normally post coffee cups as ratings but for this one folks you’re gonna need at least three boxes of tissue. #truth

Excerpt:

“Don’t you think it’s time to stop brooding and give this crusade up?”

The voice didn’t startle him. But he was surprised to hear it from the doorway across the room. “What do you want, Quinn?” His voice held no emotion. He wasn’t exactly happy to see her but he wasn’t angry either.

Her footsteps echoed in the large room as she moved closer to him. “I came to see how you are. Can’t a friend stop by to check on another friend without suspicion?”

Calix looked up and sat back in his chair. He was greeted with a plunging neckline that exposed everything from her neck to her navel. She had never been one for modesty. Not even four centuries ago when women weren’t meant to show themselves off.

He raised a brow. “Since when are you my friend, Quinn? I may have turned you but I sure as hell know you only come to me when it suits you.”

The gorgeous redhead laughed, her voice melodic and haunting. “Don’t even start with me. I’ve been there through all of this, Calix. You’re putting yourself through hell and for what? What’s one mortal woman amid the thousands you could choose from?”

She’s made new friends, embraced her past, and even found love.   Back on the road …   Following a tragic situation, Amelia is determined to hit the road, put her life in order, and finish the book she was hired to write. As each brother settles into their role in Amelia’s life, secrets threaten to rip their relationship to shreds. Can Noah and Sawyer find a way to save the brotherly bond they share? Or will the woman of their dreams end up tearing them apart for good?

review

The woman did it again. She done left me in suspense AND crying my eyes out.

When we open the book, we find out that Mel has survived the attack on her and Noah and after holding my breath for a chapter, we find out that Noah survived as well. However, we are immediately stumped by who is giving Mel an ultimatum early in the story. We follow along with Bastards and Dangerous (BAD) as they restart their farewell tour through the memories of Mel as she is writing to finish her inside story on the band.

Mel is reluctant, to say the least, to write but her deadline is quickly approaching and despite what has happened and what it is she must make a decision about (and who will receive the answer) the clock is ticking.

We are immediately caught up in the spell D. Kelly weaves as Mel, documenting the band as faces more deranged fans, personal demons, happiness beyond measure and a tragedy so out of the blue, I had to immediately email her and ask what the hell! Of course, she pled the fifth and said all will be answered in EP, the third and final book of the Just an Illusion trilogy.

If you haven’t read Just an Illusion Side A, get out there and do it now so you can pick up this book, a pack of tissue and tell your loved ones to leave alone until you’re done.

So as Belle would say, till next time Slammers and don’t forget live today as there is no tomorrow xoxo

Just an Illusion – EP is coming June 21, 2017

synopsis

One night changed her life…

Bestselling author Amelia Greyson has grown up in the music industry and isn’t the slightest bit fazed by fame or celebrities. However, when she attends a Bastards and Dangerous concert with her best friend Belle, her world shifts on its axis.

Double trouble…

Sawyer and Noah Weston are the front men of BAD. They’re fraternal twins and sexy as sin. When they hear the author of The O Factor is in their green room, they’re intrigued. She’s just the person they need to write their farewell story. The brothers offer Amelia the opportunity of a lifetime, which she reluctantly accepts.

Three hearts…

Noah is sweet and considerate, working hard to make Amelia feel at home on the road. Unfortunately, the closer they get, the more obnoxious Sawyer becomes. Sawyer is arrogant and distant and he wants Amelia, even though she’s not his for the taking. Only during stolen moments does Sawyer show her who he really is.

Can Amelia maintain a safe distance from Sawyer and keep her heart intact? Or will she shatter Noah’s heart by giving hers to his brother instead?

Review: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne

Harry_Potter_Cursed_Child_Play

synopsis

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

review

Darkness came from unexpected places indeed! Child #2 saw this book in his school library and checked it out just for me. He did it on a day that had to absolute squat and just that small gesture made me feel so much better. I sat down after the kids had gone to bed and began to read. I had made it 3/4th of the way through before I realized it was 2am and I had to get up in five hours so I could take them to school. I was truly upset that it wasn’t one of those times when my insomnia kicked in and would have allowed me to stay awake and still functional the next day.

Lucky I forgot that it was now Saturday, so no school, but I did get to sleep a bit longer before taking #1 to work. When I got back #2 was awake and I knew there would be no further reading until he was asleep.

Back into, it only took me a little over an hour to finish. I was pleased that it wasn’t as hard to read (script format) as some as my friends posted when they first got it. I was able to feel the characters emotions and was truly shocked about who was revealed as the cursed child.

It did make me sit back for a minute and do the math but I realized my error and all was good. I do hope that J.K Rowling writes this in true novel form and would give anymore insight. Definitely adding this to my to be purchased list and I hope you do too.

5cupreviewEasy read, will keep you captivated. 5 cups!
