Thanksgiving 2015

I have a lot to be thankful for this year, even though it’s been the hardest one yet. I was worried that it wouldn’t be a good day for the kids because I was not feeling it when I woke up. My body ached and moving was just not on my list of things to do.

When I finally got up, I was dismayed in myself for forgetting to soak the turkey overnight (okay cooking purist, hold on, been doing this for decades and no one has been food poisoned) so figuring out ways to defrost a turkey quickly was numero uno on my to do list.

While that was going, I decided hey, lets get the apple pie done! Put it in for the hour it required and of course I somehow burnt it. Need to learn that tiny oven at 400 degrees does not mean I need to cook the damn thing for an entire hour.

I was really about to through in the towel when things started to look up. The boys were excited this year for our meal together, B took the lead in cleaning up the table and our ottoman (we eat on that a lot since our kitchen is too small), even put a pretty tablecloth on it.

Q did trash runs like a champ and helped with the finishing touches of dinner. He even took a plate to his Poppa’s house. When he returned we sat down and blessed the food and shared what we were thankful for. Then we tucked in, as Dumbledore would say.

It was quiet. So very quiet as they devoured the food I made. I have no idea what I did this year but the turkey was melt in your mouth good and I am so going to try to that from now on… which means I will ruin it next year. LOL.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones and if you weren’t able to I hope you know how much they love and miss you!
